Special Notes for Combat Checkers
This is the second version of Combat Checkers, the first version did
not have a one player option. Only one copy of this version was ever
distributed, and it was subsequently tracked down and obliterated.
The instructions for the game do not describe the difference between
the computer playing on normal mode vs killer mode. For the benefit
of the player the differences are described in this text file.
Normal Mode: In this mode, you get to design the computer's checker
set. You equip the pieces with the armors and weapons that you
think they should have. If the computer gets a kinged checker,
you get to pick what new weapon or armors (if any) the computer
should have.
Killer Mode: In this mode, the computer will design its own checker
set. (Note: for some reason, the computer is not fond of the
Robot checker. After checking the code the computer uses to pick
its pieces, I decided it seemed to know what it was doing and did
not force it to pick more Robots.) The computer will also equip
its kinged checkers with the new weapon or armors that it thinks
it will need.
The computer uses the same game strategy on both modes, one is not
easier on the human player than the other. However, the Killer mode
option does make the game much more difficult, because the computer
is good at designing a checker set.
For a real challenge, try playing the computer on Killer mode and
take the Standard checker set for your pieces.
Special Note: If you enter data into the program in an incorrect
format, you will get a Redo from Start error.
DO NOT PANIC, simply reenter the data correctly and the game
will continue were it left off.
